Cinder by Marissa Meyer

I've always loved fairy tales. I own multiple leather-bound, large collector books of fairytales and when I find modern adaptations, I immediately snatch them up. So, when I heard about Cinder, I knew I had to have it. Cinder is an adaptation of Cinderella, except cinderella is a cyborg. How cool is that? After an unfortunate accident as a child, she had to have some of her body parts replaced by robotic parts. The story takes place in the future city of New Beijing where the (evil) emperor of the moon has threatened the earth.

This book is very science fiction based, but it's done lightly. Cinder is a very cool and original twist on a classic. The writing is well done and I found myself rooting for Cinder's character and the swoon-worthy Prince Kai. This book has gotten rave reviews on goodreads. While I enjoyed it, I didn't adore this book. I thought the ending was a bit abrupt and I was never really completely sucked into the story. BUT it's only the first in the series. I own the second book, Scarlet, and the third book, Cress,  is released tomorrow! I plan on continuing the series later this month, and I can't wait to find out how Marissa Meyer incorporates all of the other fairytale characters into this series.

I can't end this post without raving about this cover. It is amazing. Absolutely gorgeous. From what i've seen of this series so far, I'd consider these books to have some of the best YA covers i've ever seen. So, kudos to the graphic designer! The covers for Scarlet and Cress are just as beautiful!
